NEWS - Power Cuts
The Pentagon centre in Washington Street, Glasgow suffered a major power outage on 24th November 2010.
Unfortunately for the commercial residents of the centre a prolonged power cut for the entire building plunged offices into darkness and rendered lifts, copiers, electronic doors and office computer systems useless.
EQSN staff happened to be visiting our facilities in the Verizon datacentre, which is located in the same premises, at the time. It was reassuring, although not unexpected, to see that the Verizon generator had powered-up and was producing electricity for all the datacentre facilities. All systems were functioning as anticipated and there was no evidence that the power outage affecting the rest of the building was ongoing.
The security staff even had the kettle on for a cuppa while others at the nearby canteen facility were using mobile phones to illuminate the sandwich display to assist with their lunch selection.
This was another harsh reminder for those companies that still manage their vital IT systems from their office premises that a datacentre is a more resilient and suitable environment to locate their key resources.
